Home Office
Another set of 1;12 furniture from the Smithsonian Museum catalog inspired this scene. The roll top desk has drawers that open and I put some mailing envelopes in the partially opened side cupboard. The swivel chair faces the desk, and the globe in its wooden stand is in the corner. For this scene I made the base and two walls out of foam core, and papered the walls with some fancy paper I had ordered from an online craft store. The book case I made and filled with some of the books I make and keep in my "stash." (As a librarian, I often used books filled with miniature books as retirement gifts for co-workers.) Having discovered that the insides of security envelopes had great miniature scale print, I bound a lot of these books with that paper.

The sailing ships were a miniature show purchase, the ceramic vase I bought from a store in Brazil, the cat was a gift. The California bear plaque was from a tie tack mounted on black leather. I framed all the maps and horses from Dollhouse Miniature cutouts. The Princeton University logo came from a saved envelope. Letters, magnifying glass, all the stuff on the desk top were added to make it look like a real person's office.
